The Doctrine of God

God is One... The Lord our God is One!

In our fallen world, since Adam and Eve's eyes were opened to knowledge of good and evil, humanity has found many flawed substitutes to place between ourselves and God. Be it relationships, careers, bank accounts, activities, sports, hobbies, or carved figures of precious metals, stone and wood, Deuteronomy 6:4 is an evident imperative Word from God that He is the One, the One true God, and besides Him, there is none other! "4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:" (Deuteronomy 6:4 KJV) Having coming out of a Gentile nation of bondage and captivity, full of polytheism and cultural pluralism, Yahweh imperatively stated and commanded to His people that He is the One true God and His ways only are proven and true.

1.) Deuteronomy 4:39 (KJV)

"39 Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the Lord he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else." Here again before Deuteronomy 6:4. Yahweh establishes in the wording of this declaration to Israel, KNOW and CONSIDER in our heart the Yahweh, Adonai, Master, King, Owner is God, and He reigns from His heavenly throne, and here in our limited finite capacity on Terra Firma, lowly created earth there is none else who is GOD!!! Notice how God deals with the situational, positional, and misdirected fallen mind of man in one statement. Flawed from the Fall of man, and tainted by a pluralistic society, Yahweh graciously makes it clear He is God, the One true God.

2.) Isaiah 43:10 (KJV)

"10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me." Centuries later, after a unified and established Kingdom of Israel, the same fallen nature, and desire for tangible things God's people, much like His church of today had placed heir faith in the economy, self acts, and hand carved idols. Yahweh's nation of missionaries had forsaken her first love, Yahweh Himself, in favor of earthly things, and He reminds then through the prophet Isaiah the He alone is Sovereign God, and never was there any moment that He wasn't! He is the One True God!

3.) Isaiah 45:18 (KJV)

"18 For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord; and there is none else." In the first passage (Det 6:4) Yahweh addresses His people, the covenant people of Israel and states the imperative that He is the Lord Yahweh, the ONE Lord. The second verse Yahweh commands them to consider in their hearts, the fact that He the Lord our God is one. And beside Him there is none other.   He demonstrated this in the plagues and Exodus from bondage in Egypt. Yahweh in the next verse builds onto that with the understanding, that they are His missionaries,  His servants whom He has chosen.  So that they could know Him, be saved by Him, and trust Him. He reaffirms that He alone is pre -existent, and eternally existent. Amen.

How is man to live in the light and fact God is the Only God?

1.) Exodus 20:3-6 (KJV)

"3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments." Looking at what God Himself says here, He doesn't tolerate, nor can, or will allow anything come between His possession and Himself. Yahweh loves with a perfect and Holy jealous love for those whom He has relationship with. He will not be second to any, including His children. This is not selfish or egotistical, it is Father and Supreme Divine protective love. Cherishing love that is even more than that I beheld as my only new born daughter was placed into my hands twenty years ago. There is nothing that can be made or conceived by man that is anything like Yahweh!

2.) Mark 12:28-30 (KJV)

"28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?

29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment." Jesus, our Lord, the Son of God, and Son of Man reaffirmed this truth! This proves Yahweh is the same today, yesterday, and forever. He is Holy, claims that which belongs to Him, and provides a perfect lamb for our sin, so we can know Him. So His law is written on our heart and we are His witnesses. We are bought and paid for out of bondage and captivity to sin. We are made free whereas the nation of Israel was set free from bondage and captivity. Yes we are under grace, and yes it matters how we represent that witness of being made free under grace!
