hristian thinkers and leaders of today are seriously concerned about the decline of reverence and love for the Bible, which is undoubtedly a characteristic of the age. And the gravest aspect of the question is found, not in the antagonism of the unbeliever, but in the sheer indifference of the average mind and the lack of interest in the conventionally religious and church going sections of the community. et a man find interest, suggestive and arresting power in the Bible, and the Word will have a chance with him: even curiosity is better than dullness, for it lays open at least the surface of the heart. What we need most sorely at the present juncture is not merely interpreters of the Word, but, first of all, those who can, as it were, let it shine with it's own revealing light. "The only genius we often want," said Dr. Parker, "is simply more light." The teacher who can hold up the Lamp of the Word where it's rays cannot but fall upon the path of life, is the interpreter who will create an interest in the Bible which shall have nothing in common with idle curiosity or unprofitable speculation. Men will say, "we thought this book was a dark and perplexing document which needed to have light thrown upon it, but we see now that it itself is a light piercing far down into the darkest caverns of a man's being." G. Campbell Morgan "Vital Forces of Today"
This was written long ago. And as I recall my little brother's birthday today, three years after his passing into the Kingdom of God, I simply post this as a reminder to myself, and to all that the Bible is Truth, it defends itself, it explains itself, confirms itself, and that is part of what can be derived from King Solomon's writing under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. "9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun." Ecclesiastes 1:9
No matter man's variation in Philosophy, sciences, or discoveries, these things were already here, man is trying to understand them, and tag a name on it and call it discovery, there truly is nothing new under the sun. Sin is still sin. Life is life, death is death, and there is a Heaven and there is a Hell. Jesus came at the right moment of human history to show this.
Consider this, the Hebrew people fell under occupation to Greece, then Rome. Before these they endured Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia, came out of captivity with the written Old Testament. They finally had learned not to be idolatrous, yet the did not grasp the heart of the written Word. Then came the Greeks, and philosophy and reasoning. The world still had not found heart in the scriptures or the reasoning of man. Then came Rome, by force and power they ruled. The world still had not found heart in the Word of God, until the Word Himself came and brought heart in place of ritual, enlightenment of Truth in place of philosophy, and Christ's rule by His own meekness, allowing the choice of one to choose than rule by force. Jesus is, was, and always will be. There truly is nothing new under the sun. Love in Christ, Jason
