I.)Who is the Son of Man?
A.) The promise- In the beginning we were and are promised a deliverer from the Serpents sting. In the third chapter of Genesis we see God already had provision for or fall in place, in His unique timing, His precise timing! "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." (Genesis 3:15 KJV) the first prophecy of the Christ Who would and did come, and is yet to come again! Just more evidence that our Father is the personal involved God!
B.) The Prophecy- God, centuries later in a time of hopelessness, during the Babylonian captivity for violating the Sabbaths, and gross idolatry, would speak through perhaps on of His most courages and effective prophets Daniel. "I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." (Daniel 7:13-14 KJV) Even in the valley God is GOOD and involved in what seems like hopeless situations! Notice the details in this prophecy, they are two fold: already partly filled and to be fulfilled! Glory!
C.) The Provision- Let us just let the Scripture speak on this point: "At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day. But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests? Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless? But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple. But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day." (Matthew 12:1-8 KJV) Jesus provides the physical need for hunger in this passage, paints the illustration of being spiritually fed, and notifies the Pharisees of the Sanhedrin exactly Who He is, in His provision!
II.) What did the Son of Man do?
A.) He entered our world of human history- At an exact planned moment of time, Christ entered our world, fully God, fully human, for a fulfilled promise! "But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father." (Galatians 4:4-6 KJV) Friends, Beloved, Christians, brethren and sisters... read that passage again! Look, Behold! the promise, the provision, the prophecy fulfilled that the Holy Spirit had Paul write in three verses of Galatians! Glory! Thank God in heaven He entered our world!
B.) He entered the "PAID IN FULL" stamp in God's ledger of justice: "Tetelestai" is the Koine Greek from the original text of the Gospels and a language that would be used commonly by educated Hebrews, Hellenistic Jews, and Rome in the their foreign territories... It is an accounting term, it also means "IT IS FINISHED." Yes, Jesus said this on the cross! And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:14-16)
III.) Was Jesus sold into bondage? In all actuality, yes, for the price of a common slave. Thirty pieces of silver, which Judas Iscariot would throw back at the Sanhedrin before taking his own life and entering Hell. Jesus the Son of Man would be sold for thirty pieces of silver, and an exchange for a common rebel, thief, and murderer whom Rome had finally caught and had in custody! The nam Barabbas means sons of men. The Child of heaven in exchange for the sons of men and thirty pieces of returned silver; however, this only fulfilled the many promises and prophecies in the Old and New testament, going all the way back to Genesis 3:15.
