NEHEMIAH 3:15
GOD
" Nehemiah 3:15 But the gate of the fountain repaired Shallun the son of Colhozeh, the ruler of part of Mizpah; he built it, and covered it, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof, and the wall of the pool of Siloah by the king's garden, and unto the stairs that go down from the city of David."
Yesterday we walked our way through the Dung Gate and we noticed its purpose and its name, function and necessity in our lives and walk. Just as we take out the trash in our homes or I hope you do, or the stench, the filth, the diseases become overbearing. Our heart is no different as is our walk, conversation, very spiritual lives are at stake. Hence the purpose, and the design ordained by our Father in Heaven. Every aspect of God's intention has a plan and purpose, all the previous gates, their names, their place in order, of repair, we have seen were for a specific plan and functioning purpose for Jerusalem, Judah, and yes we the Believer.
As we looked at the Dung Gate, after the Sheep Gate, after the Fish Gate, after the Old Gate, and after the Valley Gate, we saw the Dung Gate had its purpose. Just as its name specified, we are shown we have need of a gate to get the trash, dung, and sin out of our hearts, lives and daily walks. When Jesus comes in our life, when we walk with him in total submission, the dung comes out. It is not only for our walk of obedience, it is also for our edification, our benefit. It is advantageous for us as individual Believers in Christ, edification to our person, and the edification of His church! His Bride in Whom He is glorified that we come through the previous gates and get the dung out where we can be refreshed. We come to the Fountain Gate. Let us think for a moment, if we will the imagery of a fountain. What do we visualize when we hear of the word fountain? Running water, water flowing, and water refreshing. How awesome it is to have the Fountain Gate after the Dung Gate! Sin and filth cloud our sight and obstruct our faith. When sin is not confessed and dealt with it wears us down, it tears at our mind and emotions. So we NEED the Fountain Gate like an oasis requires water.
"4 And he must needs go through Samaria.
5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.
7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water." (John 4:4-10)
Our Lord and Shepherd knows the needs of His sheep. Look at the beginning of this passage, Jesus knew He "MUST NEEDS" go through Samaria. He had a purpose to accomplish for God's will. He was a devout and law keeping Hebrew, which brings even more significance to Him going through Samaria. When one comes down from Jerusalem through Samaria, it is dry, dusty, and not any easy walk for sure. So He stops at a well for refreshing in a land that every Hebrew crossed the Jordan River twice to avoid. There was a woman there that needed a refreshing drink of Living Water, she needed a Good Shepherd to save her so she could get the dung out of her life and be refreshed.
"11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life." (John 4:11-14)
Okay Beloved in Christ we have dealt with the dung in our lives, so now we can get refreshed by Living Water. It happens every time we come to Jesus after confessing, and dealing with our sin, We have to get the smell and stench of dung of us, and only Living Water [Jesus] can do this. Same aspect with sin and forgiveness, only the blood of the Lamb can suffice our need for salvation to cleans and absolve our sin. Remember what a shepherd king would pen by the Holy Spirit about the Good Shepherd?
"23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake." (Psalm 23:1-3)
Isn't it beautiful how all of scripture, intertwines and connects to form a tapestry, a canvas, a masterpiece for our soul and His glory? Different passages from the Old and New Testaments, written in different dispensations of time, by different men under different guidance of God all telling the story of Jesus. Come through the Fountain Gate and get that Living Water! Love in Christ Jason
