2nd Timothy3:16
"Can you take God at His Word?"
Introduction: Since God is good, and He is God He can be trusted at, in, and through His Word, which is also commonly called the Bible or scriptures. So many scriptures testify of His goodness, His faithfulness, His love, and His grace. The Holy scriptres also testify to His Holiness, His hatred of sin, intolerance of wickedness, and the consequences of such. Beloved and friends let us hear what God said through His Apostle Paul, and listen to what is said specifically about God's Word.
2nd Timothy 3:16- "16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:"
I.) What is the first thing we see and hear God say in this text?
1.) "All" scripture is given by inspiration of God.
a.) What is meant by inspiration? Going to the original Greek text, it means God breathed. The Word is literally from the mouth of God, and that my friends is the ultimate authority.
II.) What is the next thing God says to us in this passage about His Word?
1.) It is profitable for doctrine. Now in our society, we all know what profitable means, the word Paul used means advantageous, beneficial to our good! Profit friends!
2.) Let's ask ourselves what God means by doctrine? The word simply means learning, teaching, instruction and information for Christian living and witness.
III.) Now what is the third word we see that God is saying to us about His Bible?
1.) It is for reproof, so we must ask ourselves what does God men by reproof?
He is simply telling us that His Word brings conviction, and evidence, of the very things that He says is Truth, and Life, and what needs to be changed in our lives to conform to Christ!
IV.) What is God sayingnext through Paul in this text of His Word?
1.) He says it is for correction. What is biblical correction? The actual word Paul used in the Greek text means to "straighten up!" Plain and simple folks, fix what the Word convicts us of. No room for any other meaning...fix it!
V.) Lastly in this text of scripture, what is God saying?
1.) What does "instruction in righteousness" mean? It is the sum of this whole text or passage added together. When we abide in the Word of God, we will grow in equity and character of Jesus, the incarnate Word of the Living God! His character and will overtakes our character and will the more we abide in He the Word.
Conclusion: The more we abide in the Word, Holy Scriptures, the more Jesus we become. Will you take God at His Word? Friend, you have to take Jesus at His Word to be saved from an eternal life from the fires of hell. Christian, we must take Christ at is Word to be conformed to His image and be a witness for Christ. "15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." 2nd Timothy 3:15 Make the wise choice and take God at His Word!
