The Doctrine of God Part 2-He The Holy Spirit
Elohim-God in Three Persons-Blessed
Trinity: God is Trinity
This
can be a difficult truth for any human being to grasp, especially for
the lost soul, the one whom doesn't have the indwelling of the Holy
Spirit, it is an illogical and unbelievable fact. To us who are
indwelled with Him is only a mystery to some, and more of a mystery
to others. In spite of our finite human understanding, He the Holy
Spirit, a Person in Himself helps us in our finite comprehension of
Who He is, how He is God, and how He is Jesus yet still a Person of
the three. It is true that the word TRINITY is not
mentioned out right and directly in Scripture. It would be a
doctrinal term introduced by an early church patriarch Tertullian.
He did not discover the Holy Trinity, for He was always there from
before the beginning, and will be even after the end of earth. He
simply named Who and What already was to help the Beloved understand
the Way better. After reading the first section of this paper, it
may seem contradictory to say "The Lord our God is One..."
and in the next breath speak the TRUTH "God in
three Persons Blessed Trinity." To the lost soul, this would be
one of those seemingly "contradictions of the Bible and
Christian faith." To we the Beloved of the Father it is a gift,
to be unraveled or opened more accurately as we grow from grace to
grace, This nature of our Father is mentioned in scripture,
therefore it is so! It is truth, and it is He Who convicted us of
our sin, and led us into saving grace amen! It is He Who seals us,
the down payment of our complete finished salvation that is to come,
and it is He that intercedes for us, when we're so broken and hurt we
can't utter words of prayer. Thank God for His Comforter the Holy
Spirit!
1.) Genesis
1:1 (KJV)
In the original Hebrew text the word for Yahweh in this
verse is ELOHIM- PLURAL MASCULINE
which loses its forcefulness somewhat in the transliteration in the
English. In the Hebrew tongue this is paramount! The first mention
of Yahweh is plural, male, and in Hebrew grammar the plural is (THREE
PERSONS) unlike
English which is two or more, in Hebrew the rule is three!
A.)
How is Yahweh referred to in a New Testament passage? 1
Corinthians 8:6 (KJV)
"6 But
to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and
we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we
by him." Here we see that we Beloved of the Father are in
one God, and one Lord Jesus. Each a separate Person, but same
unity in which we are positional located in and by. The same Person,
yet distinct individuals and offices of the same Person. In the
following passages, how is our Saviour Lord
Jesus mentioned?
B.) Lord Jesus the
Christ, the ONLY begotten Son of God the Father. John
1:1-2 (KJV)
2 The same was in the beginning with God." Of
course we Christians know Who the Word is. He is Jesus, the One Who
was there before the beginning, with Yahweh, and is Yahweh! See how
John 1:1 is a detailed parallel verse to Genesis 1:1? The two
passages speak the same message, unfold the same truth, and establish
the separate identities of the same one God! John 1:18 (KJV)
"18 No man hath seen God at any time, the only
begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared
him." Again we see two
distinct Persons, yet still One in One! John 20:28 (KJV)
"28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord
and my God." Here we have
a human eye witness account, and declaration of truth, as Thomas
states Christ is Lord and is God! Philippians 2:6 (KJV)
"6 Who, being in the form of God, thought
it not robbery to be equal with God:" Here
an Apostle, Paul states the truth of the equal position between God
our Father, and Jesus our Lord!
Titus 2:13 (KJV) "13 Looking for that blessed
hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour
Jesus Christ;" Paul once
more, is driving home the truth our God is Saviour, He is God, yet He
is Jesus the Christ! Colossians 2:9 (KJV) "9 For
in HIM dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead
bodily." All of Yahweh, His
Being, His Persons the Godhead, are in Christ! The Scriptures leave
no room for dispute in this truth. It starts in the opening verse of
the Bible and continues the whole way through.
C.) What does the Word of God say
of He, the Holy Spirit? 1 Corinthians 3:19 (KJV) "16 Know
ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God
dwelleth in you?" In the
opening paragraph of this doctrine of God's Holy Spirit, it is noted
He seals until that day of redemption, and here Paul speaks of Him
dwelling within us! The very Spirit of God dwells in we Believers,
amen!
1 Corinthians 6:19 (KJV) "19 What? know ye not
that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which
ye have of God, and ye are not your own?" Rhetorically
speaking to the church at Corinth, who had chosen to live lustful
lives of flesh while claiming grace, Paul drives home the point once
more. Our bodies house the Holy Spirit of God. Where we go He is
there. What we watch He sees, and when we sin He grieves. Powerful
yet much needed verse for myself and today's church! Romans
8:9 (KJV) "9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in
the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any
man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his." This
is a stern reminder of His job and office of the Godhead, if we are
not filled and sealed with God's Holy Spirit, we are not saved.
There is no day of redemption for the lost soul. There is no way
around the matter, no grey area so to speak. There are fruits of His
presence that manifest in the true child of Christ, such as: Love,
joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self
control. Great manifestations that reaffirm our love walk, and help
us with making sure we are in the faith.
D.)
What is an act obedience that is commanded in the name of the
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?
Matthew 28:18-19 (KJV) "18 And Jesus came and
spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in
earth.
19 Go ye
therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:" The
Great Commission, the great command, the King's marching order
for His army of Saints. GO! Go in His power, teach ALL things to
ALL nations, and baptize them in the name of the Holy Trinity.
So as we began with the
doxology "Holy, Holy, Holy" we see where the meat and
meaning of this song comes. It is Biblical, and if we recall
that wonderful scene in the vision of the Throne Room of God, that Isaiah saw and spoke of, the
only thing the angels could sing is, " Holy, Holy, Holy..."
to the witness of three. Amen!
